Conservative Environmental Policy - 2006-10-05

Rona Ambrose, the conservative environment minister, successfully avoided detailing the conservative government's environmental policy on greenhouse gas emissions and climate change today.

It's pretty obvious the conservatives don't have a plan yet.

Maybe they need to change their thinking process to come up with a workable policy on the environment. After all, coming up with yet another new policy which costs low income Canadians money but pays a bonus to mid to high income Canadians is a bit of a challenge.

Conservative Environmental Policy 2 - 2006-10-19

The federal conservative government presented it's "clean air act" today.

I was a little concerned, after all the hype, that they'd actually produce a realistic sensible plan and I'd have to rethink my basic distrust and general loathing of their thought processes and policies. Thankfully, they produced a plan that everyone except conservatives, feel is a waste of time and energy and will actually screw up the environment even more than it is.

They promised measurable targets and accountability in this plan. Interestingly, I'll probably be dead before the few targets they created are achieved (2050), so I'll have to instruct my grandchildren to hold them accountable, assuming their party hasn't totally disappeared.

So, to date the conservatives have an environmental plan that is worse than no plan, a tax reduction plan that increases taxes to the low income people and reduces taxes to the high income earners, a childcare plan which does not increase childcare resources but does put a little money into the hands of low income people and a lot of money into high income families, a crime policy which won't prevent crime and an accountability act that is so huge it may take years to get fixed and passed into law.

I'd like to thank Harper and the conservative party for not forcing me to rethink my position on their performance.
